I had always wanted to start my own business, but it seemed the more I tried the less active I became. I was always spinning my tires, as it were, making my plans and never acting on them. My analytical mind kept telling me to keep checking the angles. I couldn’t make a move because I kept realizing that one decision lead to another, which lead to another, which lead to another, which lead to yet another. In the entire state of New Hampshire, only ninety-five people auditioned for voice at CYC; I was the only one they picked. Out of ninety-five people. My eleventh grade English teacher encouraged me to audition, and my Ant Peg readily agreed; I half heartily tried, and even though Hanover/Dartmouth is just fifteen miles northwest of Shallow Creek, the idea of being away from my parents for five weeks really got me motivated.   continue

It was my first performance at our high school Pops Concert. This was a concert given in the cafeteria instead of the auditorium. It had a nightclub theme, refreshments were served during the show, and there were a variety of acts ranging from the jazz band, to comedy skits to solo performances. It had only been MCed by an upperclassmen before this night, and here I was just turned sixteen and the first underclassman to be picked for the job in the twenty five years the school had been running the show.   continue

It happened on President’s Day nineteen eighty five. So far back it seems like just a dream the day we met. In Sleepless in Seattle, the guy says he knew the moment he took her hand. I got that all right, but it didn’t even take the first touch for me to know, and as I sit here and write, I can not seem to recall, the fist time we touched. Maybe we touched first when we shook hands. I do remember the first time we made love.            continue
